To create a Google Tour of Illinois:
Choose 2 or 3 sites from each of the four regions of Illinois.
Make sure that some of them are History sites, some are Nature sites and some are just for Fun, not all one type!
Find out where they are, what you do there or learn or see.

Now follow these instructions to create your Google Tour of Illinois!
Click -Create a Tour
The Google Tour site will automatically saves as you’re working. At the top, you can view it full screen. Click the little hamburger lines. Hit next at the bottom and it goes to each location. The description pops up in the bar onthe left.
Once you have started a tour, the next time you work on it go to tourbuilder.withgoogle.com/ and find “my tours”. Click on edit to get back into it.
Click -Create a Tour
- Name your Tour - (All Around Illinois, or Get to Know Illinois, or whatever appropriate name you choose)
- and add your first name.
- Now you will be on the Introduction slide:
- Click Add a Photo and Search for Images - Search "Illinois" and choose a map or picture of the state. Select it and Insert.
- In the Tell the Story box type a purpose of this Tour-such as "This is a tour of historical, natural and fun sites in every region of Illinois."
- Type in the name of your first tour site. Most will come up on the map if you type in their full name - For example I typed in "Official World's Largest Catsup Bottle in the U.S and it brings you there in Google Maps. You can adjust the zoom with either the + or the minus on the map.
- Click Add to Tour. Then a box appears in the top right of the map: Click "Center Placemark" in that box and then zoom in or out to get the map how you want it to look -then click Lock this View
- Next - click in the Photo box - go to More - Search for Images. Again search by name of site.
- Choose a photo - and Select it.
- Click in Location Name box to add the town the site is in to the name of the site. (For example I added in Collinsville, IL" to "largest catsup bottle. All the towns are listed on the website in the region where you found that site.
- Finally, add a short description of what you find at the site or what you do, or see in the text box that says "tell your audience about this location"
- Leave the dates blank
- Option - you can change the Icon (symbol of the Placemark - click on it and choose another.
